Shayanne Hill Convocation

It’s been a month since I last wrote on Marketing & Life, but I’m back and ready to share some exciting stuff with you. The past month has been a whirlwind, but the highlight of it all was my MBA Convocation ceremony!

I completed my MBA from SDA Bocconi Asia Center on the 6th of May 2023.

“Be unorthodox, but respectful”

This is how the dean of SDA Bocconi AC began his speech at the convocation.

It all started on the 12th of July 2021, a date that now feels like a life-time ago. Probably is too. I was a kid, completely fresh out of undergrad, apprehensive about how I’d manage in a class where people had as much as 2 or even 5 years of work experience.

But with time, I learnt and I grew.

In this blog, I’m going to talk about my personal journey through the last 2 years, how the program pushed me to grow, believe in myself more, and my overall growth into a much more independent person.

An essential point to acknowledge that…

Everyone has something unique to offer, and we can learn valuable lessons from anyone if we approach it with the right perspective.

Throughout my MBA journey, I interacted with a diverse group of classmates, professors, and guest speakers. And let me tell you, some of the most profound insights and lessons came from unexpected sources.

In a classroom setting, it’s easy to assume that the most experienced or accomplished individuals hold all the wisdom. However, by opening up to different perspectives and actively listening to others, you quickly realize that knowledge can come from anyone, regardless of their background or experience level.

It’s important to approach every interaction with an open mind and a genuine curiosity to learn.

In a corporate setup, that person you meet at a networking event might have a different background or expertise, but they could offer a fresh perspective or introduce you to new opportunities.

My MBA program also helped me…

Develop a Global Mindset

Another crucial lesson I’ve learned is the importance of having a global mindset. The MBA program exposed me to a diverse cohort of students from various cultural backgrounds, and this multicultural environment has broadened my horizons. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of different cultures, customs, and business practices from around the world.

This global perspective has not only enriched my educational experience but has also equipped me with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of our interconnected global economy.

Be Adaptable & Learn Continuously

The business landscape is ever-evolving, and my MBA journey has emphasized the significance of adaptability and continuous learning.

From tackling complex case studies to staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends, I’ve come to realize that being open to change and embracing a growth mindset are essential for success.

Remember,

Growth comes from embracing new opportunities and continuously pushing your boundaries.

These are just a few of the many lessons I’ve learned during my MBA. Each day was a chance to grow.

Looking back, I can confidently say that I’ve become a more independent, confident, and resilient person.

As I embark on this new chapter of my life (in my role as a Product Marketer), I’m excited to share more stories, insights, and experiences with all of you. Stay tuned for more blog posts where I explore the fascinating intersection of marketing and my life.
